The Quillin and Kyrinn:

Introduction:

Quadrupeds are one of the 4 master races of Columbyne; Comprised of two distinguishable races made up of the Quillin and Kyrinn.

The Quillin are intelligent ungulates, who’s general physical appearance are comparable with that of Cervids (deer, elk, moose, etc), with each individual possessing a horn of some variation growing from the crown of their head; they are known for their large eyes and ears, and long whip-like tail and graceful appearance. The Quillin originated from the North Eastern regions of Columbyne, and expanded their civilization southward until they met with their cousin species, the Kyrinn.

The Kyrinn are intelligent, carnivorious ungulates who-- unlike their Quillin cousins-- posses a more canid appearance, making their physiology comparable to prehistoric Mesonychids (“middle-claws” or otherwise known as “wolves on hooves”); with scales partially covering most individuals’ backs, and instead of possessing one horn, the Kyrinn commonly posses two; one on either side of their head, just above the ears.

Since the Quillin and the Kyrinn are similiar yet different enough to be considered seperate species, they have officially been lumped into one super species labeled the Quadrupeds; them being the only known beings on Columbyne to be sapient creatures to walk on four-legs and posses the unique ability to manipulate magic into constructs and spells which the other mega races lack.

All Quadrupeds posses horn-like growths sprouting from their cranium.

The shapes of these horns grow in various structures and are thus used as a way of identifying other members of their species; the structure of one’s horn is unique to an individual like a finger print.

Kyrinn commonly grow two horns instead of one, but it is not uncommon to see the occasional single-horned Kyrinn; Theories on whether or not individuals with two horns enhances their magical fortitude is up for debate.

With these horns the Quadrupeds posses the ability to not only use telekinesis to manipulate their environment, but can also use an arcane form of alchemy, otherwise known as 'magic'. This ability to wield such powers is unique to the Quillin and Kyrinn alone, as none of the other master races have been known to be capable of such abilities, which is why the Quadrupeds are seen as equals among their fellow sapients despite the fact that they are the only master race which walk on four legs and lack the use of opposable thumbs.

Quillin and Kyrinn are one of the only creatures alive on Columbyne that have the ability to manipulate the energy of the aether and use it to their whims and will. While there are creatures on Columbyne that have been reported to use magic, no living life form is better at magic than the Quillin and Kyrinn.

Their magic manifests as a visible fire-like aura coalescing around their horn(s). This same magical aura can be seen when the wielder picks up and object with telekinesis, as the object will then be surrounded by the wielder’s matching colored aura. The color of each individual’s aura differs from person to person, but the most common aura color is amber, warm yellow, or deep green; the rarest being crimson, magenta, and indigo.

A noteable trait within the Quillin society is that most Quillin families usually have an elaborate latin first name. Ex: Pandemonium, Paradigm, Quantum, Phosphorus, Europium, etc.

It was part of Kyrinn tradition and culture to wear a collar, to honor their deity; Stiletto’s sacrifice to the nation, who's her kingdom's most humble servant and protector.

As you can see in this illustration to the left, the 2 youngest cubs do not posses collars. When they come of age, they will receive their own collars, which is usually made out of an easily adjustable material.

Rich families have more elaborate collars commissioned by tailors, while commoners usually make their's out of ribbon, rope, or leather.

While it is not an official law to have a collar, the Kyrinn society often look down upon those without their collar if seen in public, as openly showing oneself without a collar on is taken as a statement of defiance and an insult to the Queen's sacrifice to the nation.
